Overview
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organization, seeks an experienced Governance and Anti-Corruption Advisor for the USAID-funded Targeting Natural Resource Corruption (TRNC) project (www.tnrcproject.org). The job holder will support TNRC to develop and disseminate practitioner-oriented information and research findings aimed at improving international conservation and natural resource management (NRM) practices to reduce the negative impact of corruption on the management of fisheries, forests and wildlife resources. It requires a strong background in corruption analysis and anti-corruption guidance in the context of international development and/or conservation programming, excellent writing skills, and experience communicating information and research findings for a practitioner audience. This is a unique opportunity to work with experts in governance, anti-corruption and natural resource management and conservation, in a dynamic team with a range of international partners and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
As part of a small, dynamic Project Management Unit (PMU), the job holder will have primary responsibility for 1) working within the TNRC consortium and with other possible partners to develop evidence-based, practitioner-oriented knowledge products and training materials, and 2) organizing and/or supporting workshops, trainings, webinars or other means for promoting knowledge uptake and practical change. Specifically, the Anti-Corruption Specialist has the following responsibilities:
- Issue expert: Draws on experience and knowledge on corruption, anti-corruption and conservation/NRM to plan, research, and author or co-author practitioner-oriented knowledge products for TNRC publication. Assists other authors to strengthen anti-corruption learning and practical relevance of their products through co-authorship, research support, and/or review and feedback. May commission and edit work from non-consortium partners. May conduct field research when and if possible and aligned with experience, expertise, and TNRC needs.
- Editing: Edits knowledge products to ensure strong anti-corruption focus and state-of-the-art knowledge, practical relevance, and effective communication for practitioners. Supports Chief of Party in ensuring editorial quality and practitioner-oriented voice across TNRC products.
- Training and expert representation: Working with the PMU and TNRC consortium members, contributes anti-corruption expertise to developing and/or leading trainings, workshops, and other fora to support practitioners in NRM and conservation to better integrate anti-corruption analysis and practice in their work.
- Project management: Manages the PMU's tracking and monitoring of the knowledge product pipeline, from concept to completion, to ensure timely production of TNRC publications. Works with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party to monitor budgets related to knowledge outputs. Works with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Specialist to monitor and report on performance and revise or develop improved monitoring approaches. Works with Chief of Party and Research Coordinator to monitor, evaluate and report on knowledge-building results. Seeks opportunities and proposes actions for improving outcomes.
- Strategic vision: Works with the PMU and the Research Coordinator (based at U4) to identify important anti-corruption themes and/or ways of building TNRC's resource base to address these themes. Monitors and analyzes new information, development and conservation/NRM policy issues, and trends related to TNRC; seeks opportunities and proposes action for improving relevance, frequency and/or quality of TNRC knowledge generation and sharing activities.
- Other: Performs other duties as needed to ensure TNRC meets its objectives.
Qualifications
- Must have either 6 to 8 years of directly-relevant professional field experience plus a Bachelor's degree in a related field such as international development, political science, economics, conservation or public administration, or must have 3-5 years' directly-relevant professional experience plus an advanced degree in fields of study such as those previously mentioned.
- Must have a sound knowledge of anti-corruption theory and practice, particularly prevention/governance approaches, as demonstrated by working on these issues in a practice/policy-oriented setting (e.g., donor agencies, think tanks, NGOs, international organizations) and/or for practitioner/policy audiences. Candidates with combined anti-corruption and NRM/conservation expertise are particularly sought.
- Must have demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis on anti-corruption issues related to conservation and natural resource management, with evidence of excellent writing skills and particularly practice- and policy-oriented style and presentation.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with a wide range of individuals, across cultures and time zones.
- Must be a team player, but within this collaborative environment, must be able to prioritize tasks and operate independently to fulfill responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in English is essential. Additional language skills relevant to the Asia, Latin America, and/or Africa regions is an advantage.
- Experience with international development programs and field site visits is desired.
- Experience with USAID audiences, projects and policies is an advantage.
- This position may involve international travel; preference will be given to candidates who are willing and able to travel.
