WWF Asia Pacific is a Regional Office that oversees the Country Offices that are managed by WWF International in the region (Greater Mekong; (Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam); Pacific; (Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands); and Mongolia).

As Head of Communications and Advocacy, Asia Pacific you will enable WWF Asia Pacific Country Offices to grow in strength and influence by leading the development and implementation of well defined, engaging national and regional communications and advocacy strategies to establish a trusted, strong and influential Asia Pacific conservation identity recognised and supported by priority audiences, partners and donors.

In doing so, the Head of Communications and Advocacy will:

  • Strengthen communications and advocacy capacity within the Asia Pacific Country Offices to support the achievement of national, regional and global conservation goals and to increase national and regional funding.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to Asia Pacific Country Office’s Senior Management Teams on communications, advocacy and issues of reputational risk, including working with national Country Management teams & communications leads to develop mitigation and crisis response plans.
  • Represent Asia Pacific Country Office communicators and act as Asia Pacific communications regional focal point, liaising, aligning and working closely with WWF International communications team**
  • Lead regional advocacy, establishing relationships with regional intergovernmental organizations and representing WWF positioning at priority regional fora.

Based in: A location where WWF International has a presence in Asia, with extensive travel within the region and globally.

Reports to: Regional Director, Asia Pacific

Supervises: One or more regional communications positions

Your qualifications and demonstrable experience will include:

  • An advanced degree in communications, advocacy, management, business administration or other relevant field.
  • At least 10 years’ professional experience in a leadership role within communications and advocacy with demonstrated success in growing capacity, managing teams and working with informal reporting lines.
  • Proven success in developing and executing successful, innovative and highly leveraged communications and advocacy strategies
  • Proven editorial judgement and experience levering the power of traditional and online media and audience engagement.
  • Proven experience initiating and leading cross sector partnerships to achieve advocacy aims.
  • Outstanding English writing skills and strong analytical, capacity assessment, and planning skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of the not-for-profit sector, preferably of environmental non-governmental organizations.
  • A strong team player capable of integrating diverse activities within an evolving environment; must be comfortable with change and leading change within an organizational framework.
  • Fully supportive of WWF’s mission and global priorities.
  • Fluency in English required and a willingness to travel

WWF International can offer you:

3 year fixed term contract with possible extension

Please note the compensation package will be aligned with local salary and benefits conditions, in line with our reward policy. We offer a comprehensive deployment package for successful candidates who relocate internationally for the purpose of this role.
